Oregon Employer Drug Free Initiative

Oregon's drug-free workplace campaign will help businesses overcome such obstacles as lack of time, money and expertise and the fear of losing key
employees.

About Us

Oregon Employer Drug-Free Initiative is a statewide business initiative to substantially increase the number of drugfree workplaces in Oregon, improve the competitive advantage of Oregon employers and support a thriving economy. It was approved as an Oregon Business Plan initiative in January, 2006 as part of the Meet Targeted Workforce Needs of Industry initiative. Download OBP White Paper

The effort was precipitated by the increasing difficulty of Oregon businesses in finding workers who can pass a pre-employment drug test. Its goals are to significantly increase the number of drugfree workplaces in Oregon, raise legislator awareness of the impact of substance abuse on business safety and productivity, prioritize substance abuse prevention in Oregon’s public workforce system, and elevate the importance of student preparation for drugfree workplaces.

The OEDI Initiative is overseen by the OEDI Oregon Employer Task Group, composed of representatives of Initiative pilot sites and others experienced in developing and implementing drugfree workplace programs. Members include:

  • Debi Bainter, Baker County Chamber
  • Chuck Carey, A-dec, Inc., Newberg, Chair
